The »Curt-Sachs-Saal« - named after the famous musicologist and   former director of the instrument collection - is accessible from both the »Musikinstrumenten-Museum« and the   studio of the institute. It is a concert and conference hall which seats 198 people.

On a regular basis, matinée performances with period instruments take place here, which sometimes are recorded in the studio. These recordings form the basis for the für die   CD-series »Klingendes Museum live« and »Klingendes Museum«. All CDs can be purchased at the   Museum-Shop.

The »Curt-Sachs-Saal« is not only used for scholarly and artistic events hosted by the SIM but also by external organisers (lease of the SIM's premises). There is technical equipment for slide-projections, film, video and overhead presentations, as well as a multi-channel   PA system.
