Picture Library

The picture library archives comprehensive documentary material on our instrument collections: colour slides (ektachromes); b/w photographic negatives and b/w blow-ups of laboratory pictures and restoration reports, respectively; scale graphs and technical drawings.

All commercial usage rights of the photographic material are reserved by    Bildarchiv PK.

Furthermore the photographs, numerous paintings, copper and steal engravings, lithographs and original drawings give evidence of the historical instrument making and performance practice.

The collection is completed by photographs of instruments not part of the collection, as well as by reproductions of important figures in music history.

Further reference sources in the picture library:

  • Friedrich Ernst's index of instruments and instrument makers (loose-leaf collection)
  • Index of instrument makers with bibliographic references (evaluation of the periodicals   Zeitschrift für Instrumentenbau and Das Musikinstrument)
  • Lantern slides from the Schuke organ work shop in Potsdam
  • The estate of the Berlin violin maker Alfred Leicht
  • Selected patent specifications concerning instrument making

Please note that the picture library can only be used upon prior arrangement.
